A recent analysis by WalletHub highlights significant economic challenges for Ohio and Kentucky. The study evaluated all 50 states plus the District of Columbia across 28 distinct economic indicators. These metrics measured economic activity, overall economic health, and future innovation potential to determine national rankings.

Kentucky finished near the bottom of the list at 50th place, ahead of only West Virginia. The state recorded its lowest performance in the innovation potential category. Ohio placed 38th overall, landing in the bottom third of the country. Within the state-by-state breakdown, Ohio scored 32nd in economic activity and 44th in economic health.

In contrast, neighboring Indiana secured a spot in the top half of the national rankings at 22nd. The top-performing states were led by Massachusetts, followed by Washington, Utah, California, and Delaware. High-ranking states consistently showed strong results in research and development investment, job creation, and startup activity.

WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo noted that while these rankings do not guarantee individual success, they indicate how well a state supports business growth and resident financial opportunity. The data serves as a measure of how competitive each state is in terms of attracting technology jobs and fostering new business ventures.
