A list of trending local business types like car rentals and dog cafes identified by OnDeck research data.

A large portion of the American workforce wants to be their own boss. With over 60 percent of people expressing a desire to leave the traditional employment track, the focus shifts toward identifying which business ventures actually offer the most promise. While the average entrepreneur pulls in about $77,000 annually, picking the right niche remains the most critical factor for success.

New data from OnDeck highlights the business types that are currently seeing the highest demand relative to existing supply. By comparing search volume metrics with current market saturation, researchers found that car rental services top the list of most-Googled local business opportunities. With 823,000 monthly searches across the country, it is a clear example of high consumer interest meeting a specific, manageable service model.

Beyond car rentals, the study identified other sectors that capture significant public attention. Tailors, dog cafés, kebab shops, and pubs round out the top five. These categories indicate a consistent consumer pull for specialized local services that provide immediate convenience or unique experiences.

Starting a business is a significant step, but looking at where people are already searching is a logical starting point for any aspiring owner. Relying on search intent provides a grounded way to validate a concept before committing significant resources. Whether you are looking into local services or retail, the data shows that the demand is there if you are willing to execute the plan correctly.
