ADP National Employment Report: Private Sector Employment Increased by 98,000 Jobs in June; Annual Pay was Up 4.4%

The latest ADP National Employment Report shows a gain of 98,000 jobs in the U.S. private sector for June. This data marks a continued slowdown in overall job creation across the country.

Annual pay for those who stayed in their jobs increased by 4.4 percent. Meanwhile, workers who switched jobs saw their pay grow by 6.6 percent year-over-year. These figures reflect a labor market currently facing specific supply constraints despite steady demand.

Industry performance was mixed throughout the month. Education and health services led the gains with 48,000 new positions. Financial activities and information services also added to the total. Conversely, the leisure and hospitality sector recorded its sixth consecutive month of weak hiring performance.

Geographic results were varied as well. The South added 37,000 jobs, while the Northeast reported 33,000 new positions. The Midwest and West saw additions of 21,000 and 17,000 respectively. Large firms and small establishments both contributed to the modest growth observed in this report.

ADP economists note that the time required to find work has increased for many individuals. This report relies on anonymized weekly payroll data from more than 26 million private-sector employees to track these labor market trends.
