Community members run to fund education, housing, employment access in Hartford

Runners gathered at Keney Park this past Saturday for the fifth annual MOVE! 5K and Movement Festival. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Urban League of Greater Hartford, supporting essential programs that provide access to education, housing, and employment services throughout the region.

The day began at 9 a.m. with the main road race, followed by a one-mile community walk and the HMF FitKids Fun Run, which is open to children at no cost. Organizers intend for the proceeds to ensure these critical city services remain free for all residents who rely on them.

Participants expressed strong support for the mission, noting that the physical challenge represents a shared commitment to the community. Runner Alexis Levis highlighted that the event draws attention to local needs while allowing people to contribute directly to the resources available to their neighbors.

The morning concluded with an awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m. This program featured the presentation of the Annual Exum Award, which recognized the contributions of former RTX executive and Urban League board member Earl Exum and his family.

Partnerships made the day possible, with the Urban League of Greater Hartford working alongside the Hartford Marathon Foundation, RTX, and CVS Health. These sponsors provided the backing necessary to host the event and maintain the momentum for future community-focused initiatives.
