Kalshi accuses Netflix of ‘misleading’ viewers in new prediction market documentary
Prediction market Kalshi has issued a cease-and-desist letter to Netflix over an upcoming documentary titled Instadocs: The Prediction Games. Kalshi argues that the project uses misleading footage to portray its users as violating state-specific gambling restrictions.
At the core of the dispute is a trailer released by Netflix on Thursday. The clip features individuals in Las Vegas discussing bets on the platform. Kalshi maintains that the documentation displayed in the trailer is not accurate. Jovalin Dedaj, head of litigation for Kalshi, stated that the trade slip shown on screen is fabricated and does not reflect their actual user interface. The company claims the imagery may be photoshopped or generated by computer software.
A court order currently prohibits Kalshi from offering sports-related contracts to residents of Nevada. While the documentary footage is dated July 19, 2026, Netflix representatives claim that the bets referenced in the video were placed in May 2025, well before the legal restrictions took effect. Netflix denies that any content within the film is fabricated, maintaining that the trades were legitimate transactions between the users and the platform.
Brandon Beckhardt, marketing lead at Kalshi, criticized the production as a project built on fiction. He confirmed that the firm requested the removal of the trailer, a request Netflix has not fulfilled. The documentary is scheduled to premiere this Sunday, and the tension between the two entities highlights ongoing scrutiny regarding the depiction of prediction markets in mainstream media.
