Advisor Sentiment Index: Advisors See a Cloudier Economic Future
The latest Wealth Management IQ Advisor Sentiment Index indicates a shift in mood among financial professionals. While advisors maintain a baseline of optimism regarding market conditions, their outlook for the broader U.S. economy has dimmed significantly compared to previous months.
Data from the June survey shows a notable decline in confidence. The index score for the general economy dropped 12% to a reading of 106. Sentiment concerning the stock market also pulled back, falling nearly 8% to 121. Despite these drops, scores remain above the neutral threshold of 100.
Inflationary pressures and the complexities of international diplomacy are cited as primary factors weighing on the professional outlook. Many advisors express concern about the future, with 43% of respondents anticipating an economic contraction within the next year. This is the highest level of pessimism regarding long-term economic prospects since the index began two years ago.
A clear division appears in how advisors view current conditions. While a strong majority of 66% see the stock market as positive, they also report a growing concern over a K-shaped economic environment. This describes a gap between rising asset prices for investors and the daily financial strain faced by many small businesses and consumers. As inflation and rising costs impact household budgets, advisors are questioning whether stock market performance is a reliable indicator of national economic health.
