Allianz Global Investors is significantly expanding its reach in the Asia Pacific region. The firm recently announced a definitive agreement to acquire UOB Asset Management, a move that will double its assets under management in Singapore. This acquisition is part of a strategy to capture growth in high-demand markets across South-East Asia.
The deal includes more than just the asset management business. It features a long-term distribution agreement with UOB Group, allowing AllianzGI to bring its global investment suite to millions of retail clients across the bank's regional network. This partnership combines UOB’s extensive local advisory presence with the global reach and product range of AllianzGI.
Leadership from both organizations highlighted the complementary nature of the transaction. The combined platform will integrate UOBAM’s expertise in South-East Asian equities and Sharia-compliant offerings with AllianzGI’s global active management capabilities. This integration aims to provide investors with a broader array of wealth and retirement solutions.
The acquisition is expected to close in 2027, pending regulatory approvals. The total purchase price is SGD 555 million, or approximately EUR 376 million. By securing an established, licensed presence in markets including Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, AllianzGI intends to serve a more diverse client base and accelerate its regional growth.
