The managers of Nick Reiner’s trust fund are fighting his request to access over $500,000 in assets. The 32-year-old requested half of his trust balance earlier this year, claiming he needs the money for legal defense costs and daily expenses while he remains in custody.
Trustees representing the estate of the late Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner are blocking the request. Their legal filings cite California's slayer statute, which prevents individuals from inheriting assets from people they are found to have killed. Because Nick Reiner currently faces trial for the murder of his parents, the trustees argue that releasing funds now would be premature and potentially irreversible if a conviction occurs.
Defense attorney Anita Wu disagrees with this position. She argues that the trust is an irrevocable fund established years ago and that the assets belong to Nick Reiner regardless of the ongoing criminal proceedings. Wu contends that the trustees are using the trust’s own money to pay for legal challenges designed to block him from funding his defense.
Nick Reiner remains in jail after his arrest in December 2025. He maintains his innocence against charges of murder with special circumstances. A court hearing regarding the dispute over the trust access is scheduled for today.
