A rare piece of Tennessee architectural history has a new owner. The Shavin House, recognized as the only residence in the state designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, has officially sold after spending over a month on the open market.
Real estate brokers confirmed the final sale price reached $4 million. This amount is $2.6 million above the original asking price for the property. Located on Missionary Ridge, the home has stood in its current spot since its completion in 1952.
The residence serves as an example of Wright’s specific architectural principles. It is built from native Tennessee Crab Orchard stone and Louisiana cypress. The design includes expansive glass walls to connect the interior space with the surrounding natural landscape. Notable details include mitered corner windows, clerestory lighting, and custom wood screens.
Karen Shavin, the previous owner, grew up in the residence and lived there for decades. The property features a pond and native gardens designed specifically for the site. The new owners acquired a home that highlights the architect's focus on compression and release within its structural layout.
