The Whitney Museum of American Art opens its latest exhibition on October 11 titled Roy Lichtenstein: Like New. This show gathers more than 130 works spanning six decades of the artist’s career. It features iconic comic-book style paintings alongside sculptures, prints, and films.

A central feature of the exhibition is the recreation of Lichtenstein’s 1962 debut at the Leo Castelli Gallery. The museum reconstructed the original gallery layout to display all eight pieces from that show together. Visitors will see seminal works such as Look Mickey and Drowning Girl in a setting meant to mimic the initial public reception of his work.

The show moves beyond a traditional retrospective by positioning Lichtenstein as a precursor to modern digital culture. His work with image reproduction and appropriation offers a lens to view current habits regarding memes and digital art. The exhibition includes nearly 96-foot murals and highlights his influence on subsequent generations of artists.

Additional pieces by Louise Lawler, Richard Pettibone, and Sturtevant appear in the exhibition to provide context for Lichtenstein's artistic legacy. Members have early access starting October 8, with general admission beginning October 11. Tickets are available now for those planning a visit to the museum this fall.
