Evan Rachel Wood "Sad" About Not Returning For 'Practical Magic 2': "It Seems Like They're Not Following The Book"

Evan Rachel Wood has addressed her absence from the upcoming Practical Magic 2. The actress, who played Kylie Owens in the 1998 original film, stated that she was not asked to return for the sequel. She expressed disappointment regarding the decision, noting that she offered her services even for a minor role or single line of dialogue.

Wood explained that the connection between the original cast members creates a history that is difficult to replicate. She remarked that seeing the actors and the iconic house again in the new production would have provided a meaningful continuity for the fans of the franchise. Despite her willingness to rejoin the cast, the production team decided to move forward with a different approach for the characters.

In the new film, the role of Kylie Owens is played by Joey King. The story also features other casting changes, including the recasting of Antonia, previously played by Alexandra Artrip, who is now portrayed by Maisie Williams. Wood pointed out that the sequel appears to deviate from the source material, stating that while her return would have fit within the narrative of the original books, it did not align with the current vision for the movie.

The sequel is based on the novel The Book of Magic and is set to arrive in theaters this September. Wood previously mentioned on social media that she was not involved in the decision-making process and that the choice to recast was entirely outside of her control. She remains supportive of the project while acknowledging that she would have welcomed the chance to work with the cast again.
