Security officers at Tampa International Airport encountered a bizarre situation during a routine passenger screening on Tuesday. TSA personnel conducting X-ray scans spotted an irregular item inside a carry-on bag, which prompted a closer look at the contents. The agents discovered a fixed-blade knife hidden inside a book that had been carved out specifically to conceal the weapon.
When confronted by security agents about the item, the passenger attempted to claim that carrying a chiseled-out book containing a blade is a normal practice. This explanation did not prevent the involvement of law enforcement.
TSA supervisory officer Taylor Stouffis ordered a property search after identifying the knife on the scan. Airport police arrived at the checkpoint shortly after the discovery and took possession of the book and the concealed knife.
