The development comes from the community-driven CrossPoint Reader project. By installing this alternative firmware, Xteink X3, X4, and X4 Pro owners can add third-party plug-ins to their devices. This update bridges a significant gap in functionality by enabling support for DRM-protected content from platforms like Libby and stores like Kobo.
While the implementation is currently in beta, the process is straightforward for anyone familiar with sideloading files. Users connect their device to a computer via USB-C to flash the CrossPoint firmware. Once installed, the reader handles protected books without the need for additional complex software steps.
This release represents a shift for Xteink enthusiasts. The hardware remains compact, but the software is finally gaining the utility needed for a broader library experience.
