The 1999 teen classic 10 Things I Hate About You is officially heading to the stage. A new musical adaptation is set to make its Broadway debut in 2027, with preview performances starting on August 17 of that year.

Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang are writing the book for the production. The music and lyrics are the work of Carly Rae Jepsen and Ethan Gruska. The creative team includes director and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, with Tom Kitt handling music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations.

Producer Mike Bosner leads the project. His previous work includes shows such as Shucked and the recent Cats: The Jellicle Ball. While the creative team is locked in, specific theater locations, casting, and opening night details remain under wraps for now.

The original film, which served as a modern retelling of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, turned into a cult favorite that launched the careers of Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The plot centers on two sisters and a high school matchmaking scheme that forces the leads to navigate teenage angst and shifting expectations.

Producers describe the show as a rebellious take on growing up and defining oneself on individual terms. The Broadway arrival adds to a growing list of film-to-stage adaptations aiming for the 2027 season.
