Dakota Johnson looks unrecognizable as Marilyn Monroe in ‘Flesh Impact’ first look
Dakota Johnson is set to transform into Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe for a new project. The actress appears in the first look for Flesh Impact, a short film written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Fans are noting the sharp change in appearance as Johnson takes on the role of the star at the peak of her fame.
The film also features 93-year-old actress Ellen Burstyn. She portrays an imagined version of Monroe, offering a take on the celebrity that remains outside of historical memory. Gyllenhaal noted that she wanted to explore the complexities of being an actress in the spotlight. She described the work as a bridge between the real Marilyn Monroe and the public perception of her life.
Gyllenhaal admitted she initially questioned whether Johnson was the right fit because of the physical differences between the two. She moved past that doubt quickly to focus on the performance. The director and star previously worked together on The Lost Daughter in 2021.
The production marks a milestone for the late icon as it coincides with what would have been her 100th birthday. The short film is scheduled to premiere at the Venice Film Festival this September. It joins a long list of depictions of Monroe in film and television over the years.
