Prince Harry and Meghan are preparing to relocate from the United States to a private residence in the United Kingdom later this month. Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated that security arrangements for the couple remain a private matter and that government officials do not intervene in specific royal protection decisions. The Home Office assigns responsibility for these assessments to the Royal and VIP Executive Committee.
This committee must now establish new protocols because the previous arrangements assumed the family resided abroad permanently. While the couple maintains a high public profile and close ties to the monarchy, the Home Office maintains its policy of refusing to disclose specific protection details to ensure the integrity of the security system. Prince Harry previously pursued legal action regarding his security status after he initially stepped down from royal duties in 2020.
Beyond security logistics, the transition marks a shift for the family as their two children are set to enroll in a British school next month. Sources close to the couple describe the decision as a personal choice to move back to the UK, rather than a return to full-time working royal status. The move allows Prince Harry to manage preparations for the upcoming Invictus Games in Birmingham and spend more time with his father, King Charles.
Despite this return, the family plans to maintain their California property. Meghan intends to continue her work in media and her business operations from the UK. The move also provides an opportunity for the family to spend time at the Spencer family home in Althorp as the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death approaches next year.
