Elon Musk threatens a ‘historically accurate’ ‘Odyssey’ movie made entirely with AI

Elon Musk recently announced plans to use his AI video generator, Grok Imagine, to produce a film adaptation of The Odyssey by the end of 2026. He describes this project as an effort to create a version that is historically accurate and true to the original work by Homer.

This claim follows his public criticism of Christopher Nolan’s recent film adaptation, which has drawn significant attention. Musk has used his social media platform to post negative commentary regarding the casting choices in Nolan's version. Despite these objections, the Nolan film has achieved a strong reception, currently holding high approval ratings on major review platforms.

Beyond the use of AI, Musk expressed interest in funding a traditional production led by Mel Gibson. In response to a suggestion from a user, he indicated a willingness to finance a film featuring authentic period weaponry, ships, and dialogue delivered in the original Homeric Greek.

Christopher Nolan, known for his preference for practical effects in filmmaking, has publicly questioned the value of AI in the industry. He noted that contemporary audiences are quick to identify and reject AI-generated content, arguing that there is a current shift in interest toward more tactile and real forms of storytelling.

As of now, the technical feasibility of generating a full-length feature film that accurately represents classical mythology remains a point of speculation. The intersection of emerging AI technology and established cinematic tradition continues to be a central topic of debate within the industry.
