Box Office: ‘The Odyssey’ Has Epic Opening Day With $51 Million
Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, made a strong debut at the box office with $51 million on its opening day. Playing on 3,919 screens across North America, the movie now tracks toward a weekend total between $100 million and $120 million. This performance puts it on track to become the third movie this year to cross the $100 million opening weekend threshold.
This release marks a significant point for Nolan, as the opening day gross alone surpasses the entire opening weekend of his 2014 film, Interstellar. While the production cost is reported at $250 million, the current trajectory places it ahead of Oppenheimer, which opened at $82 million in 2023. The film features a large cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Zendaya.
Other films are currently filling out the rest of the top five. Moana sits at second place, though it faces a significant drop during its second weekend. Minions & Monsters holds the third spot, while Toy Story 5 and Evil Dead Burn occupy the fourth and fifth positions respectively. The box office continues to shift as these titles compete for screen space throughout the summer.
