Ridley Scott, Hugh Jackman’s ‘Treasure Island’ Setting Sail to Sony

Sony is in talks to acquire a new film package featuring director Ridley Scott and actor Hugh Jackman. The project is an adaptation of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novel Treasure Island.

Ridley Scott will take on directing duties for the feature. The script for this version comes from Jack Thorne, who is known for his work on Adolescence. Hugh Jackman is attached to star in the production.

This project adds to a long history of adaptations for the pirate story. Past versions include the 1934 talkie starring Jackie Cooper and Lionel Barrymore, the 1950 Disney take, and the 1996 musical Muppet Treasure Island. Walt Disney Animation also moved the setting to space in the 2002 film Treasure Planet.

Scott produces through his Scott Free banner alongside Michael Pruss banner alongside Michael Pruss. This announcement follows recent work for both individuals. Scott has his upcoming film Dog Stars arriving in theaters this August, while Jackman recently completed work on The Death of Robin Hood.
