Marvel Studios picks Spider-Man: Brand New Day captain Stephen Wacker as new boss for Marvel Comics editorial

Marvel Comics has appointed veteran editor Stephen Wacker as its new editor-in-chief, effective immediately. Wacker takes over the position from C.B. Cebulski, who served in the role since 2017 and is moving into a new position within the organization.

Wacker brings a significant background to the role. He previously spearheaded the Brand New Day era of Amazing Spider-Man and oversaw projects that introduced characters like Ms. Marvel and Spider-Gwen. His work on titles like Hawkeye helped set a model for creator-led storytelling that influenced later Marvel projects on screen. Marvel Studios leadership expects Wacker to build on this history as he assumes control of the publishing line.

In a formal statement, Marvel Studios leadership emphasized the importance of the publishing wing as the source code for the entire enterprise. Wacker will report to Brad Winderbaum, who serves as the head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics, and Franchise. This leadership change signals a shift toward closer alignment between the studio and the comic book division.

Wacker expressed his intent to expand the House of Ideas while acknowledging the contributions of Marvel's foundational creators. The transition marks the beginning of a new period for the publisher as it looks to develop fresh stories for the years ahead.
