A Long-Awaited Return to the Studio

Northern California metal band All Shall Perish has released "Be As Kings, Be As Gods," their first new single in 15 years. The track marks a significant shift for the group, appearing under the banner of Arson Theory, a music company co-founded by frontman Hernan "Eddie" Hermida. Production duties for the single fell to Zack Ohren, a producer known for his work with Machine Head and Fallujah. This release follows a decade and a half of silence from the band, a period defined by legal disputes and internal friction.

The band members are clear about the obstacles they faced during this hiatus. They openly acknowledge that their long absence was not a choice but a consequence of these difficulties. In a message to fans on their newly launched Kickstarter page, they noted that the persistence of their audience kept them moving forward through years of setbacks. The song release serves as an immediate, tangible signal that the group is moving back into the recording process.

Funding a New Era Independently

All Shall Perish is bypassing traditional industry support to record their upcoming album. They are currently operating without a record label or an external manager. To bridge the gap, the band launched a crowdfunding campaign with a financial goal of $75,000. These funds are designated for specific production tasks, including $30,000 for recording and $18,000 for video projects. They have also allocated funds for promotion and mastering, with a small percentage set aside for contingency expenses and platform fees.

The stakes for this campaign are specific and immediate. The band promised their audience a second new song if they reach the $75,000 target. This direct appeal to the fan base reflects a broader industry trend where bands seek autonomy by trading reliance on major labels for a more direct connection to their core supporters. It represents a clean break from their previous history with larger industry players like Nuclear Blast.

Historical Context and Touring Milestones

This release coincides with a significant moment in the band's history. They are currently on "The Price Of Existence 20 Year Anniversary" tour, which commemorates the release of their second album. That 2006 record was a breakthrough for the group and marked the first appearance of Hermida and lead guitarist Chris Storey. The current touring lineup features these two alongside guitarists Ben Orum, bassist Adrian Oropeza, and drummer Andrew Baird.

The band's path to this reunion has been far from linear. In 2013, the group fired Hermida after he joined Suicide Silence to replace the late Mitch Lucker. The lineup underwent further changes in 2015 when the group announced the return of Hermida and Storey, along with founding members Matthew Kuykendall, Caysen Russo, and Orum. Original vocalist Craig Betit also joined the effort during that period, while former bassist Mike Tiner declined an invitation to participate. This latest iteration of the band suggests that while the internal membership has fluctuated, the motivation to produce new material remains a priority for the core group.
