Legendary drummer Dave Lombardo and ambient electronic artist Lustmord are teaming up for an experimental project called Lustmord Lombardo. The pair is set to release their debut album, The Pulse of Atoms, on October 2 via Ipecac Recordings.
Fans got their first taste of the collaboration with the single Paleomagnetic Resonance, which arrived alongside a new visualizer. The project represents a departure from traditional song structures. Lustmord notes that the music avoids specific genres or time periods, aiming for a sound that mimics the birth and death of stars rather than standard rock and roll.
Lombardo, known for his foundational work with Slayer, expressed pride in the new direction. He stated that the project offers a creative shift from his previous work and highlights the experimental production capabilities of Lustmord. The duo focuses on thick, atmospheric sound layers to create a sense of scale beyond conventional band dynamics.
The Pulse of Atoms is now available for preorder in multiple physical formats, including two limited-edition vinyl variants. The full tracklist features seven tracks that lean heavily into this collaborative, cosmic approach to composition.
