David Bowie / The Shel Talmy Recordings

The David Bowie estate is releasing a collection of recordings from 1965. Titled The Shel Talmy Recordings, this set gathers tracks Bowie made with the producer during a formative year in his career. The 22-track CD features material recorded with The Manish Boys and The Lower Third. It includes 10 tracks that have never been available to the public before, such as I Want Your Love.

Shel Talmy produced these sessions at IBC Studios in London. Talmy was a significant figure in the industry at the time, having worked with The Kinks and The Who. The sessions also featured guitarist Jimmy Page, who contributed to the recordings. These tracks document Bowie's early development as a performer and songwriter following the split of his first band, The King Bees.

The collection comes in multiple physical formats. A 22-track CD release is available, alongside a vinyl version that contains 11 tracks. Parlophone plans to release the set on 18 September 2026. Fans can choose between red or black vinyl pressings, and a specific edition with an alternative cover design will be sold through HMV and Record Store Day locations.

This release represents the most complete archive of this specific period. It provides a clearer picture of Bowie's time in London studios as a teenager before his rise to fame later in the decade. The recordings capture the transition between his early work with The Manish Boys and his time with The Lower Third, providing documentation for music historians and collectors.
