Hedge fund manager Joseph P. Healey is turning his birthday celebration into a local music festival once again. This Saturday, the Narragansett resident will host Maroon 5 for a free, public concert at his waterfront property, known as Sand Castle By-The-Sea.
Healey has established a tradition of throwing large-scale, public birthday bashes every decade. Past events featured high-profile performers including Sting for his 40th birthday and Lenny Kravitz for his 50th. The concerts are open to the public, allowing residents and visitors to watch the performances from the beach adjacent to his home.
The logistical approach for these events is consistent. Healey organizes the production to allow anyone present at the beach to enjoy the music without the need for tickets or private invitations. The setup utilizes the natural amphitheater of the Narragansett coastline.
Local authorities and residents are familiar with the scale of these productions. As with previous iterations, the event draws significant crowds to the seaside town. The concert remains one of the few instances where a private individual sponsors a major headline performance for the general public in Rhode Island.
