Buzz Osborne of the Melvins and JD Pinkus of the Butthole Surfers have launched a new supergroup called Gatta Morta. The band includes Clinton Jacob from Mr. Phylzzz and Coady Willis from Big Business, with all members contributing vocals to the project.
Osborne notes that the idea for the band originated during a tour last fall. He describes the music as heavy and weird, focusing on a sound that draws from the doom-metal era of the Melvins and the heavy rock elements found in Big Business. The members have a long history of playing together in various iterations of the Melvins, making this collaboration a logical progression for the musicians.
To mark the announcement, the band surprise released their debut EP titled Burn Witch Burn. They also shared a visualizer for their lead single, Black Hall. This release coincides with the Melvins' current North American tour with Tomahawk.
The EP features four tracks including Taco Bellboy and Victims of the Universe. Fans can purchase the record through official channels as the band begins this new creative project.
