Inaugural Daisy Chain Fields Festival Begins in Irvine
Olivia Rodrigo takes the stage at Great Park in Irvine today to headline the first-ever Daisy Chain Fields music festival. The event features an all-women lineup that includes performers such as Chappell Roan, Doechii, Garbage, Mitski, and The Breeders. Fans began arriving early this morning at the venue, which sits on the expansive grounds of the Great Park.
The festival schedule spans two distinct stages, with organizers ensuring no overlapping performance sets. This layout allows attendees to catch every act listed on the bill. Beyond the main performers, special guests scheduled for appearances include Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan, and Karen O. Rodrigo is slated to close out the inaugural event from 8:40 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the Dandelion Stage.
Managing Extreme Weather Conditions
High temperatures present a significant challenge for today's event. The National Weather Service expects the mercury to climb to 93 degrees in Irvine. The most intense heat window runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., covering the bulk of the daytime performances. Festival organizers have installed specific infrastructure to mitigate heat-related risks for the expected 45,000 attendees.
The current setup includes five hydration stations and five cooling stations positioned throughout the park. Additionally, the event grounds feature two shaded areas and two medical tents to provide immediate assistance. Festival staff remain on high alert as crowds gather during the hottest part of the day, monitoring for potential heat-related medical issues among the audience.
Purpose and Philanthropic Goals
Rodrigo established the festival with a clear focus on advocacy for women and girls. Every cent of net proceeds from today's concert will go to charities that support this mission. Beneficiaries include the Center for Reproductive Rights, the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, and Baby2Baby. The list also includes Planned Parenthood, the National Women's Law Center, and Jhpiego.
The event serves as a continuation of the singer's Fund 4 Good initiative, launched in 2024 to combat domestic violence and support reproductive education. Rodrigo expressed her excitement regarding the festival earlier this June, stating that she believes music and community provide the best path for meaningful change. For the city of Irvine, the festival marks a significant step toward establishing the Great Park as a premier cultural destination for Southern California.
