A man identified as Andrew Truelove entered the restricted area by following an employee through a secure door. Once inside the studio stairwell, the intruder sought out Al Roker and directed racial slurs at Craig Melvin.

Police arrested the suspect on the scene with the help of an officer working a paid detail. Truelove is currently held on a $10,000 bond. Formal charges against him include third-degree burglary as a hate crime and third-degree menacing as a hate crime. The network confirms they are working closely with the New York Police Department during the ongoing investigation.
