This new "Cape Fear" has me rooting for Max Cady

The latest Apple TV adaptation of Cape Fear brings a strange shift in perspective. Instead of the typical black-and-white battle between a predator and his victims, series creator Nick Antosca presents a story where every character occupies a gray area of moral ambiguity. Javier Bardem steps into the role of Max Cady, reimagining the character as a complex antihero rather than a one-dimensional villain. While the original films focused on the terror of a criminal stalking a family, this series spends time questioning the motivations of the Bowdens themselves.

Anna and Tom Bowden, played by Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson, are central figures who possess their own secrets and questionable judgment. As the tension mounts, the audience finds themselves caught between a man seeking his version of justice and a couple whose own choices have fueled the conflict. The series moves away from the pure malice found in previous versions, opting instead for a portrait of mutual antagonism.
