Craig Melvin, Al Roker granted protective orders against crazed ‘Today’ show intruder

A judge has issued protective orders for Today show anchors Craig Melvin and Al Roker following a security breach at the Rockefeller Center studio. The intruder, identified as Andrew Truelove, was arrested after he followed an employee into an unauthorized area and confronted Melvin.

During the encounter, the suspect demanded to know Roker's location and directed a racial slur at Melvin. Authorities have charged Truelove with third-degree burglary and menacing, both categorized as hate crimes. He is currently being held at Rikers Island with bail set at 10,000 dollars.

NBC confirmed that it is cooperating with law enforcement investigations regarding the incident. A security guard involved in the breach has been fired by the network. Despite the event, both Melvin and Roker returned to the air on Friday, with Melvin addressing the situation on the morning broadcast to confirm that staff are safe.

The suspect faces a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the charges. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 22. The security breach has prompted internal reviews at the network to prevent similar incidents in the future.
