HBO has officially renewed the horror prequel series It: Welcome to Derry for a second season. The show, which connects to the recent film reboots directed by Andy Muschietti, will shift its focus to 1935 during the Great Depression. This new installment explores the origins of the Bradley Gang Massacre, an event referenced in Stephen King’s original source novel.
Brad Caleb Kane takes over as the sole showrunner for the upcoming season, following his co-showrunner role on the first chapter. While casting details remain under wraps for the time being, the production team aims to capture the bleak atmosphere of the era. The narrative will move away from the suburban setting of the first season to examine a town struggling with poverty and survival during the 1930s.
The series remains a key project for the production team at Double Dream. Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti continue their work as executive producers alongside a team including Roy Lee and Dan Lin. The project is a collaboration between HBO and Warner Bros. Television, marking a continuation of the brand’s expansion of the Stephen King property.
