Return of the Sketch Comedy Mainstay
Saturday Night Live returns to the NBC schedule on September 26, 2026, for the premiere of its 52nd season. The late-night institution has been on hiatus since the conclusion of its previous season in May. NBC confirmed that Jalen Brunson, the New York Knicks star who secured a championship title and MVP honors in June 2026, will serve as the host for the first episode. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the group Katseye.
The upcoming season debut marks a significant moment for both host and musical guest, as both make their first appearances on the storied stage. Katseye, which features members Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Manon Bannerman, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeung, will perform amidst internal group transitions. Bannerman remains on hiatus from the group, while member Sophia Laforteza recently started a break from performance duties.
Cast and Crew Changes
Staffing shifts define the lead-up to the 52nd season. Longtime cast member Chloe Fineman confirmed her exit in July after a seven-season tenure that began in 2019. Fineman cited the timing as appropriate for her career, despite describing her time at the show as a life-changing experience. She joined the program in season 45.
Additional changes occurred within the writing staff. Martin Herlihy, a former member of the Please Don’t Destroy trio, is departing the program. Herlihy remained on the writing staff for season 51 after his collaborators, Ben Marshall and John Higgins, left the show. His departure concludes the presence of the comedy troupe on the writing team.
The Schedule for Season 52
NBC released the host and musical guest lineup for the first four episodes of the new season. Following the premiere, Dakota Johnson and Turnstile will anchor the October 3 episode. The schedule continues on October 10 with Shane Gillis hosting and Rosalía performing. The fourth show of the season features Inde Navarrette and Gracie Abrams on October 31.
Fans can stream the episodes on Peacock. The show continues to operate from its base in New York City, maintaining its position in the NBC weekend lineup since its debut in 1975.
