‘The Big Bang Theory’ Makes Triumphant Return to Comic-Con With ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’
The Big Bang Theory franchise is back at San Diego Comic-Con. The team presented a preview of the new spinoff series, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, before its release on HBO Max. Actors Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, John Ross Bowie, and Brian Posehn joined creators Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady to discuss the production.
This show follows Stuart Bloom as he attempts to fix reality after breaking a device belonging to Sheldon and Leonard. The mishap triggers a multiverse event that forces Stuart and his companions, including Denise and Barry Kripke, to navigate various alternate versions of familiar characters. The series is the fourth entry in the franchise and maintains the connections established by the original show and Young Sheldon.
Production details indicate a shift in the visual style for the franchise. While the original series relied on a traditional four-camera setup, this spinoff uses a single-camera format. Chuck Lorre noted that the new approach allows the production to function more like a film, providing more flexibility than the constraints of a stage-bound sitcom.
New episodes arrive weekly on Thursdays at 6 p.m. PT. Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre Productions manage the project, with Kyle Newacheck directing several episodes. Attendees at the panel also received a first look at exclusive comic book cover art created by DC Comics artist Jim Lee.
