Taylor Sheridan has officially closed the door on the previously announced Yellowstone spinoff titled 6666. Despite early development talk, the co-creator confirms that the project is not moving forward. Sheridan addressed the status of the series during a recent appearance on the Rodeo Time podcast.

The decision centers on the preservation of the real-life Four Sixes Ranch located in Texas. Sheridan, who helped purchase the historic property in 2020, expressed a desire to protect the integrity of the working environment. He stated that he would not fictionalize the experiences of the real families and workers who keep the ranch running today.

Fans first expected a series set at the Four Sixes after the character Jimmy Hurdstrom, played by Jefferson White, relocated there during the fourth season of Yellowstone. While those scenes displayed the life of a cowboy, Sheridan explained that he prefers to keep the narrative distinction clear. He noted that the footage of Jimmy at the ranch functions as a complete story on its own and does not require an expansion into a full series.

Sheridan remains protective of the ranch and its legacy. He emphasized that the responsibility of managing the property requires careful handling. Trivially fictionalizing the daily lives of the staff would contradict his respect for the individuals involved in the operation.

While the 6666 project is off the table, the wider Yellowstone universe continues to expand. The franchise includes titles like 1883, 1923, Marshals, and the Texas-based Dutton Ranch series. Paramount initially announced the 6666 spinoff in 2022, but those plans are no longer part of the production slate.
