Telemundo adds UEFA Champions League rights in multiyear deal

Telemundo is expanding its soccer coverage in a major way. The NBCUniversal-owned network has secured exclusive U.S. Spanish-language broadcast rights for all UEFA men’s club competitions starting with the 2027-28 season. This agreement includes the UEFA Champions League, the Europa League, the Conference League, and the Super Cup.

This deal marks the end of the current rights period held by TelevisaUnivision. Telemundo plans to broadcast these matches across its primary network, Universo, Peacock, and its sports-focused FAST channel. The three-year commitment signals a clear push for Spanish-language market share, building on the network's high viewership numbers during the recent World Cup.

This move places Telemundo in a position to compete with Paramount, which maintains the English-language rights for UEFA competitions through the 2030 season. With both contracts expiring at the same time, the timing creates a shift in how UEFA media rights operate within the United States. Viewers can expect to see these matches integrated into the same digital and broadcast ecosystem as the Premier League and various international tournaments currently hosted on the network.

Market data shows that a significant portion of the audience for high-profile soccer tournaments in the United States chooses Spanish-language broadcasts regardless of their primary language.
