Craig Melvin and Al Roker granted restraining orders against ‘Today’ show intruder

Craig Melvin and Al Roker have been granted temporary restraining orders following a security incident at the Today show studio. On Thursday, an individual named Andrew Truelove entered an unauthorized area of Studio 1A and confronted the anchors. Authorities state that the intruder allegedly shouted racial slurs at Melvin and specifically requested to see Roker.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has charged Truelove with two felonies: burglary in the third degree as a hate crime and menacing in the third degree as a hate crime. He is currently being held at Rikers Island on a $10,000 cash bail. If convicted of the charges, he faces up to 15 years in prison. His next scheduled court appearance is July 22.

Following the incident, NBC News announced that they are reviewing security protocols at their facilities to ensure the safety of their staff and guests. The network confirmed that they are cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation proceeds. No injuries were reported during the encounter, and the intruder was detained by officials on the scene.

Melvin and Roker have both publicly addressed the event. Melvin expressed his appreciation for the support he received and noted that he was back on air the following day.
