Shakeup! 'Y&R' Prepares for Major Storyline Reset as Names New Writing Team

The long-running CBS daytime drama The Young and the Restless is undergoing a significant creative change. Producers have named Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor as the new co-head writers for the show. They replace Josh Griffith, who decided to step down from the position earlier this summer after a lengthy tenure.

Giddens brings experience from his current role on the drama Beyond the Gates and his previous work on Days of Our Lives. He is a recognized name in the industry with multiple industry award wins and nominations for his writing work. Before his shift to television, he co-founded the publication Daytime Confidential.

O’Connor joins the team with a deep background in daytime television. He started his career as a writers’ associate on One Life to Live and spent over a decade at General Hospital. During his time at General Hospital, he filled various roles including breakdown writer and co-head writer. Like his new partner, O’Connor holds both Writers Guild of America and Daytime Emmy awards.

This appointment marks the first time The Young and the Restless has utilized a co-head writing team since 2013. The incoming pair is set to begin their duties next week. Behind the scenes, the network aims to return to the storytelling style that kept the program at the top of the Nielsen ratings for decades. Cast and crew members have received notification of the transition as production continues.
