After a decade of operating within established fitness centers, Adam Goldberg and his personal training business, MBI Fitness, are opening their first independent facility in State College. Located at 2101 S. Atherton St. in Hills Plaza, the gym occupies a 6,000-square-foot space previously home to Power Train Sports and Fitness.
MBI Fitness began in 2016 with a model that pairs training sessions with gym access, removing the need for clients to carry separate, long-term gym memberships. This new facility will follow that same practice, keeping the gym floor restricted to current MBI clients. The space has undergone significant renovations to include new rubber flooring, a 27-yard turf strip, and specialized equipment ranging from free weights to cable machines.
Goldberg intends to use the dedicated space to grow beyond one-on-one sessions. The staff, which includes specialists in nutrition, golf fitness, and joint mobility, will now have the room to host small group training. Clients will also benefit from a remote access system, allowing them to train independently during business hours using programs tracked through the company’s mobile app.
This transition marks a major milestone for the business. By controlling the entire environment, MBI Fitness aims to offer a more focused experience for their clientele, moving away from shared gym spaces where they were previously guests. The new gym is expected to open its doors to clients within the next two months.
