Nike is entering the growing sport of competitive fitness racing with two new footwear models. The company will introduce the Hybrid Fly and the Hybrid RN, both of which are designed to support athletes who transition between running and functional strength training. These shoes address the specific demands of Hyrox competitions, where participants alternate between endurance running and weight-bearing exercises.
The Hybrid RN is marketed as an everyday training shoe. It features ReactX cushioning for running comfort, a stable base for lifting, and an X-ICon lockdown strap to secure the foot during multi-directional movements. This design aims to resolve the common issue of needing separate footwear for different segments of a workout.
The competitive landscape for this equipment is heating up. While Puma remains the official global partner for Hyrox through 2030, brands such as Gymshark and On Running are also releasing specialized footwear to capture market share. On Running recently debuted the Cloud X Tempo Pro, which includes input from professional fitness racing athletes.
Nike plans a phased release for its new lineup. The Hybrid RN is scheduled to launch in China on September 24, followed by a broader international release on October 8. The racing-focused Hybrid Fly model will arrive on the global market in April 2027.
