The announcement was held at Saenz Pharmacy, where he discussed rising expenses with local families.
The proposal has drawn sharp criticism from political opponents. Gina Hinojosa, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee, characterized the move as a late-stage maneuver. She pointed to long-standing issues in the state regarding high numbers of uninsured residents and the closure of rural hospitals as evidence that the policy does not address the core problems within the health system.
