Ischemic optic neuropathy typically manifests in the non-arteritic anterior form in more than 80 percent of cases. This condition does not usually result in total darkness or complete blindness in the way many fear. Instead, patients often report symptoms such as persistent blurring or a noticeable dimming of their sight. Many patients also experience a loss of part of their visual field in one eye. While medical intervention can help some individuals regain a portion of their sight within the first six months, the damage is frequently permanent.
