Actress Jennifer Esposito is speaking openly about a severe health crisis that once derailed her career and led to a stay in a psychiatric ward. The Blue Bloods star described years of unexplained physical symptoms that left her depressed and suicidal while doctors struggled to find a cause.

Esposito recalled that her condition during her time on the show Samantha Who? became so dire that she lost hair and fingernails, and even lost a tooth while filming a scene. She faced multiple misdiagnoses as medical professionals suggested she suffered from stress or other issues. She described the process as an exhausting period of medical uncertainty that resulted in her being committed after a crisis at a doctor's office.

The breakthrough came when she received a diagnosis of celiac disease. This autoimmune condition occurs when consuming gluten triggers an immune response that damages the small intestine and prevents nutrient absorption. After she eliminated gluten from her diet, her body began to heal, though the recovery was long and difficult.

Esposito now resides outside the United States and emphasizes the importance of listening to one's body rather than just treating symptoms. She views the diagnosis as a life-saving event that forced her to shift her focus away from the high-pressure environment of her former career. She is sharing her story to help others who might be facing similar health battles without clear answers.
