The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy continues into its second week as evidence regarding her mental state takes center stage. Clancy stands accused of strangling her three children with exercise bands inside their Duxbury home before attempting to take her own life in January 2023.
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington presented excerpts from a personal journal kept by the defendant. The entries reveal consistent reports of severe insomnia, anxiety, and deep depression in the months preceding the incident. One passage documents a feeling of detachment from her youngest child, accompanied by an explicit desire for professional help.
The prosecution maintains a different perspective on these events. They argue the actions were a planned decision made by the defendant to escape the burdens of parenting. A psychiatrist from Brigham and Women’s Hospital testified about her condition shortly after the event. The witness stated that when asked how she felt, Clancy replied that she was horrified before writing down a question about legal representation.
The court continues to hear testimony as both sides present their arguments regarding the defendant's mental health status at the time of the killings. Legal proceedings are scheduled to resume Tuesday morning in Plymouth.
