This tiny Canadian town offers tourists a chance to see Northern Lights, beluga whales and polar bears

Churchill, Manitoba is a remote town located on the shores of Hudson Bay. With fewer than 1,000 residents, it serves as a primary hub for viewing polar bears, beluga whales, and the Northern Lights in one location.

Known as the Polar Bear Capital of the World, the town sees bears gather along the coastline during the fall and winter months as they wait for the bay to freeze. In the summer, more than 3,000 beluga whales move into the mouth of the Churchill River to feed and give birth once the ice clears.

Beyond the wildlife, the area is a destination for viewing the aurora borealis. The town sits directly under the auroral oval, which results in frequent displays. While the lights are visible for up to 300 nights a year, the period between January and March provides the best viewing conditions due to extended darkness.
