Three Fox Valley communities declare emergencies after tornado; curfew and boil-water order issued

Three Fox Valley communities have declared local states of emergency after a confirmed tornado struck the region on Monday. The storm produced winds measured at 124 miles per hour, causing significant damage throughout Neenah, Menasha, and Grand Chute. Officials confirm that there are no known fatalities and few reported injuries at this time.

Local authorities report downed power lines, broken trees, and widespread debris that currently impede emergency response teams. As a result, the City of Menasha and the Village of Fox Crossing have implemented a mandatory curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until further notice. Residents in these areas are instructed to remain off the roads to allow utility crews and public safety personnel to work.

A boil-water order remains in effect for the Village of Fox Crossing east of the Fox River and for Menasha residents served by the local water utility. Officials urge residents to conserve water while the system remains under pressure. The public should avoid traveling into the City of Menasha, which is currently closed to vehicle traffic.

Emergency shelters are open for those in need of assistance. Christ the Rock Community Church is providing overnight sheltering. The Elks Lodge and Calvary Bible Church are also hosting residents during evening hours. Transportation to the Christ the Rock facility is available from the former Shopko parking lot at 1150 Midway Road until 9 p.m. Service animals are permitted at these locations, but other pets are not allowed.

The Winnebago County Emergency Operations Center is coordinating the response. Residents are advised to stay clear of downed power lines and obey all posted road closures.
