Three Fox Valley communities declare emergencies after tornado; curfew and boil-water order issued
Three communities in the Fox Valley region are under local states of emergency following a confirmed tornado that hit on Monday. The storm caused significant destruction across Neenah, Menasha, and Grand Chute, leading to widespread power outages and blocked roadways due to downed trees and debris. Officials confirmed that while there are no deaths reported, the situation remains critical as cleanup crews work to clear paths for emergency services.
Local authorities have implemented strict safety measures to manage the aftermath. The Village of Fox Crossing and the City of Menasha are under a mandatory curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until further notice. This restriction applies to all public spaces, including streets and parks, though workers performing necessary duties are exempt. Additionally, a boil-water order is currently in place for residents served by the Village of Fox Crossing water utility due to pressure loss caused by the storm.
Access to the east side of Fox Crossing and the entire City of Menasha is currently restricted to support emergency operations. Police and fire rescue teams are asking civilians to stay off the roads to avoid congestion that prevents utility crews from reaching damaged sites. Residents are instructed to shelter in place whenever possible.
Several emergency shelters are operating in the area to provide support for those displaced by the weather event. Christ the Rock Community Church, The Elks Lodge, and Calvary Bible Church are currently accepting residents. Shuttle bus transportation is available from the former Shopko parking lot on Midway Road for those unable to reach shelters on their own. Service animals are permitted at these locations, though other pets are not allowed.
Winnebago County Emergency Management has activated its operations center to coordinate the response.
