An adult female bear entered an Asheville home through an unlocked door on Tuesday night, leading to an encounter that left a resident injured. Reems Creek Fire Department crews responded to the incident on Spooks Branch Road around 9 p.m. after the homeowner reportedly crossed paths with the bear while it was attempting to leave the premises. The resident was assessed by emergency medical services for injuries sustained during the exit.

Officials from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission report that the bear was accompanied by three cubs, which were observed on the front porch during the event. The agency stated that the homeowner was hurt while she was trying to provide the animal with a clear exit route. Because the cubs are old enough to be self-sufficient, authorities are now working to address the threat posed by the adult female.

Neighbors expressed growing concern regarding recent bear activity in the area. While residents often coexist with the local bear population, this specific encounter highlights the risks associated with increasingly bold behavior. The Reems Creek Fire Department is urging everyone in bear-prone neighborhoods to remain alert. Officials emphasize the importance of securing doors and windows to prevent wildlife from accessing homes.

Residents are advised to remove food sources and other attractants from their property to discourage wildlife from approaching human living spaces. Authorities remind the public not to interact with or approach bears under any circumstances. Local crews have been spotted setting traps near the property as part of their efforts to manage the situation and ensure public safety remains the priority.
