We tried to shoot at them, but they were a little high."
Szymanski recounted how his companion, Connor Christopherson, secured a harvest after the group had already prepared to pack up. "He puts one in the chamber, and shoots it, and drops him," Szymanski said. The youth hunter expressed his enthusiasm for the sport, noting the draw of being in the field and the skill required to call birds effectively.

"The firearms are coming out again," Veath said. "We want to make sure that we're following all of our firearm safety rules. We want to make sure that if we're out in a boat, we have all our safety equipment. Lifejackets is one I'm always going to hammer on."
