Raccoon attacks: Glassboro man recounts apparent rabid animal attack outside New Jersey home

A South Jersey resident is warning his neighbors after a terrifying encounter with a wild animal in Glassboro. Kevin Tucker was walking toward his home in the Elsmere section on Sunday morning when a raccoon emerged from the brush and charged him.

"I could see these bright yellow eyes," Tucker said. He described the animal as aggressive, noting that it had been making unusual screeching sounds before the attack. As he tried to retreat, the raccoon bit his leg. Tucker reported that the animal continued to display erratic behavior, later chasing other individuals in the vicinity.

The incident serves as a serious reminder for residents to remain vigilant regarding wild animals in their neighborhoods. Local authorities emphasize the importance of avoiding contact with wildlife at all times. Officials are also reminding pet owners to ensure their animals are current on rabies vaccinations to protect against potential exposure.

While the raccoon was captured following the encounter, testing results have not yet been released to confirm whether the animal was rabid. Tucker sought medical attention for his injuries immediately after the attack.
