The Ojai Raptor Center has issued a formal warning to the public regarding unauthorized merchandise featuring Jackie, the bald eagle who passed away on August 10. The rehabilitation organization states that it does not create or sell any products centered on the eagle. They clarified that no individuals or businesses have been granted permission to sell items claiming to benefit the center through her likeness.
Following the death of the 14-year-old eagle, online markets have seen a sharp increase in Jackie-themed goods. The center expressed concern that many of these items use their name to market products despite having no official connection to the organization. Staff noted that while they operate an official store for their own general center merchandise, they keep their patient cases separate from commercial activities.
While the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley, which operates the eagle nest cam, did approach the center about a potential merchandise collection, the proposal was declined. The Ojai Raptor Center requested that none of the proceeds from such a collection be donated to their organization, maintaining a firm policy against profiting from individual patient cases.
Supporters who wish to honor Jackie are encouraged to donate directly to wildlife rehabilitation centers instead of purchasing unverified third-party goods. The center emphasized that direct donations provide the resources necessary to care for injured and displaced animals. By contributing directly, supporters ensure their funds assist the medical and operational needs of the facilities tasked with wildlife rescue and recovery.
