The Big Bear bald eagle nest has a new visitor. After the passing of the beloved eagle Jackie, a new eagle identified as KD-1 has been spending significant time with Shadow at the nest. Fans have been closely following these updates via the Friends of Big Bear Valley live camera.

Officials have now officially named this eagle Kaydee. While experts cannot confirm the sex of the bird with certainty, they noted that Kaydee appears larger than Shadow, which is typical for female bald eagles. This new bond has been observed through frequent sightings, including the pair roosting together and calling out to the valley.

While speculation about a new breeding pair continues to circulate among the public, experts caution that true breeding behavior will not emerge until later this fall or winter when hormonal changes occur. In the meantime, the community is appreciative that Shadow has a companion in the habitat.

In addition to these updates, the community is preparing to honor Jackie. A memorial event is currently being planned for October 3, and a poll is active to determine the scale of the gathering. Supporters can find additional information and updates through the Friends of Big Bear Valley, which is also preparing to release commemorative merchandise in her honor.
